How much does Kobo cost?
Kobo is free to use for players, modders, and developers. There are no licenses or mandatory fees to get started. In the future we may offer optional paid services for teams or studios that want hosted or cloud-based features. These are not required to use Kobo and aren’t part of the current Technical Preview.
Do I need to use AI?
No. We integrate with third-party AI services to make modding more accessible and faster, but you can always manipulate objects and write code manually. AI features are always optional and transparent - you stay in full control of every change.
How difficult is it to create mods with Kobo?
If you’ve ever built anything in Minecraft, you’re already halfway there.
Is it a Mod.io or Curseforge alternative?
No. Kobo is a creation tool, not a distribution platform. Mod.io and Curseforge are mod distribution platforms. Kobo mods can be deployed to Mod.io, Curseforge, Nexus Mods, Steam Workshop and other platforms.
Can I use Kobo right now?
Not yet! Kobo was in Technical Preview in Hello, Neighbor, and we are planning to do more tests like that. Join our Discord to be one of the first people to try it!
How difficult it is to integrate?
The integration process is similar to adding a new plugin for UE4 or UE5. For most games, it should be under two man-weeks. Unity support is coming later!
Is it like Roblox or Fortnite Creative?
Yes and no. Kobo makes every supported game its own mini-Roblox, allowing players to modify it and create their own experiences. But Kobo is not a closed ecosystem, and works across all supporting games.
How does Kobo work on consoles?
For players it's the same experience as on PC — select a mod and play it. Modders will need to use a companion device (like a laptop, Chromebook, or an iPad) to mod the game running on their console.
How do I get Kobo into my favorite game?
Developers can get in touch to join our early access program. Modders can encourage their favorite developers to integrate Kobo.
